After the recently concluded tri-series T20, there is a slight break for the national team cricketers. However, the head coach is not taking any rest. Russell Domingo left for Sri Lanka on Wednesday to watch the Bangladesh A team play. Bowling coach Charl Langeveldt also went with the head coach.
Bangladesh are a team that lacks quality in team depth immensely. For the last few years, enough quality players were not produced. Young players from ‘A’ team and other age-level teams are nowhere near good enough to replace the current veterans, with the likes of Shakib, Tamim, Mahmudullah, Mushfiq in future. This is the collective failure of both BCB and previous coaches. BCB are the main culprit here as there were lack of proper planning to groom young players. Necessary steps were not taken to increase the standard of the domestic leagues.
For that reason, Test and T20 skipper Shakib Al Hasan recently stated that playing or not playing in National Cricket League (NCL) makes no difference.
One of the main reasons for choosing Domingo as head coach was that the South African would be more involved with the domestic games and get more players out of the pipeline.
The head coach said he wants to know the cricketers around the national team better. Tto play two four-day matches and three one-day matches, the ‘A’ team left for Sri Lanka. The first four-day match was abandoned due to rain. However, this match will be re-organized, so the entire series is updated.
Therefore, Domingo will be able to watch and analyze the entire series. As well as watching the cricketers in practice sessions closely. Before leaving, the coach told that he was going to visit the ‘A’ team to get a better idea of the depth of cricketers in Bangladesh.
“Right after I got here, I said I'd like to analyze as many cricketers as possible. So I decided to go to Sri Lanka a long time ago. I want to understand the depth of our cricketers better. There are matches, I can also see them during practice sessions. I hope to get a better idea of everyone altogether,” said Domingo.
Although he is keeping up to his commitments as of now, the main challenge for the 45-year-old is a lot different and harder. Unless and until BCB helps him, by increasing the standard of domestic leagues and taking other necessary steps, it will be a difficult task for him to find out new emerging players
by his own.
