The Doel laptop production project faced a collapse due to irregularities, mismanagement, and corruption within Telephone Shilpa Sangstha (TSS).
If the organization fails to achieve profitability by June next, it must either reduce its expenses or be transferred to a private entity.
State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak made the statement after inspecting the production plants of the digital technology products of TSS at Tongi in Gazipur on Monday. The state minister remarked that the Doel laptop production project has suffered a collapse due to irregularities, mismanagement, and wastage within TSS.
He emphasized that this situation cannot persist, and TSS must achieve profitability by June 30. If not, there should be a reduction in their costs.
Highlighting several challenges, including capital shortages, the need for TSS modernization and modern equipment, smart IoT devices, increased investment, enhanced product marketing, and the recovery of foreclosed assets, he emphasized on the importance of analyzing a comparative picture of income and expenditure over the last 5 years and developing a plan for the next 5 months.
The goal is to transform TSS into a profitable company by June 30 based on this plan, he added.
Palak said, “We will not ask for any new capital from the government for TSS, we want to increase local and foreign investment by ensuring proper use of our resources. I believe, if we work with honesty, transparency and accountability, we can turn TSS into a profitable organization.”
Mentioning the telephone industry will be declared as a hi-tech park very soon, Palak further said, “Last year TSS paid Tk 7 crore tax-VAT with no income.
Walton, Fair Group on the other hand, has been exempted from tax VAT as they declared a private high-tech park.”
“I want to understand how many resources and capabilities we have, how many problems and crises there are and how far we can move towards possibilities from this place. It seems that if we accept and implement projects by ensuring maximum utilization of resources by preventing wastage of our talent, labor and money, that goal will be achieved,” Palak concluded.
