Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam has issued directives to make all types of tax collection online by March 26.
The instruction was given in order to reduce the sufferings of the people and make it easy for them to facilitate the tax collection process.
The DNCC mayor gave this instruction while addressing a meeting to review the overall activities of the revenue department including tax collection held at Gulshan-2 Nagar Bhaban on Wednesday.
Mayor Atiqul Islam said that after March 26, there will be no cash involved in the system. All money must be deposited online. If the system is made easier and convenient from home for the people, they will be interested in paying the taxes more efficiently.
"In other countries, all the people there feel comfortable paying taxes because all kinds of taxes are collected online making the whole process of collection easier as well. We want to bring that change in our country," he said.
He added that online based tax collection has already started in several areas of the DNCC.
He added that help desks would be set up in the regions. There is a need for help desks so that people can come and pay their taxes.
At this time, the mayor has requested all the citizens of the northern region of Dhaka to provide their phone number, NID number and email address in the respective areas.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of DNCC.
