Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam has ordered to pay compensation of 5 thousand taka to each family affected by the fire in Uttara Sector 8 slum.
The fire took place in the slum adjacent to Sonali Bank Officers Quarters in Uttara Sector 8 area of the capital on Saturday (November 19) at 5 pm.
The exact cause of the fire is not yet known. The matter is under investigation.
The first unit of the fire service reached the spot within fifteen minutes of the fire being reported. Later, 5 more units arrived at the spot and started extinguishing the fire. 6 units from Uttara and Tongi were able to bring the fire completely under control in about two and a half hours.
However, there were no casualties.
Initially, it is estimated that around 100-110 houses have been damaged. However, the extent of damage and list of burnt houses is in progress as soon as possible. Financial assistance will be provided to the affected families soon after the list is approved.
Immediately DNCC Regional Executive Officer (Zone-1) Md Zulkar Nayan, Chief Social Welfare and Slum Development Officer Mamun-ul-Hasan, Local Councilor Afsar Uddin Khan visited the spot.
Also, Dhaka-18 Member of Parliament Mohammad Habib Hasan visited the scene.
For the victims of the fire, arrangements have been made by the Councilor for emergency matters including dinner.
