Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), in collaboration with Gulshan Society, on Friday launched a month-long dengue awareness and prevention campaign aimed at reducing mosquito-borne infections across the capital.
The programme was inaugurated at Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park in Gulshan, according to a media statement.
As part of the campaign, awareness activities will be conducted at educational institutions, mosques, neighbourhoods and slum communities. Organisers will also distribute banners, posters and leaflets to encourage public participation in dengue prevention.
Speaking at the launch, Gulshan Society President Barrister Omar Sadat said mosquitoes exist in many countries, but the high number of dengue-related deaths in Bangladesh remains deeply concerning.
"About 2,700 people have died from dengue over the past three years due to negligence and lack of awareness. This is both alarming and disappointing," he said.
He stressed that mosquito control and dengue prevention require year-round efforts rather than seasonal campaigns, adding that Gulshan Society will continue its awareness activities throughout the year.
Gulshan Society Secretary General Mujibur Rahman Mridha, Vice President Abdul Majed, DNCC officials, employees and local residents attended the programme.
