DNCC announces Tk 3057.24 cr budget

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has announced a budget of Tk 3057.24 crore for the fiscal year 2019-2020.  DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam announced the budget at a meeting at the Nagar Bhaban, Gulshan in the capital on Thursday. The revised budget of the fiscal year 2018-19 was Tk 1822.63crore.

The revenue income in the new budget from own source is Tk 1106.40 crore which include holding tax Tk 440 crore, market salami (possession fee) Tk 100crore, trade license fees Tk 100 crore, assets handover fee Tk 300 crore, market fare Tk 10 crore, cattle market leases Tk 30 crore and others.  The government will provide Tk 100 crore as grant and Tk 50 crore as special allowance. Besides, Tk 1564.64 crore will come from government and private partnership aid based project.

The revenue expenditure in the budget is Tk 551.40 crore which include salaries and allowances Tk 200 crore, power, energy, gas and water Tk 61.70 crore, waste management Tk 86 crore, maintenance and repair Tk 29.05 crore, goods supply Tk 31.70 crore, hospitality and festival Tk 34 crore. The allocation for mosquito controlling activities has been nearly tripled compared to previous fiscal year. The budget has set aside Tk 49.30 crore for mosquito control programmes which was Tk 17.50 crore in 2018-2019 fiscal year amid the growing concern over the outbreak of mosquito-borne disease dengue.  The total development cost of the budget is Tk 2335.74 crore which is the 76 percent of the total budget.

The development cost includesroad, traffic infrastructure maintenance and developmentTk 336 crore, Environment development Tk 23.35 crore, physical infrastructure construction and development Tk 76.75 crore and other projects. In budget speech, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said, “In 2019-2020 fiscal year, DNCC will build and renovate 45 kilometres roads, 10 kilometres footpaths, and 40 kilometres drain. Besides, DNCC will set up some 12,928 LED bulbs to light up the northern part of the city. It will also build and renovate some 10 public toilets, five foot-over-bridges, two parks, three playgrounds, three graveyards and one community centre.

Mayor said, “In 2018-2019 fiscal, DNCC built and renovatedrenovate 32.14 kilometres roads,30.45 kilometres drainand 6.44 kilometres footpaths. Besides, DNCC set-up some 5,579 LED lights, build and renovated some five foot-over-bridge, one park, one playground, one graveyard, two public toilets and two community centres under different projects.” DNCC’s councillors were also present there.
