Housing projects have been built in the capital at various times by occupying parks and reservoirs.

Besides, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Ejaz said that various irregularities have been committed by changing the land category.

He made these remarks at an event in Aftabnagar, Dhaka on Thursday.

Purchase and sale of land designated for the protection of the reservoir proposed in the Detailed Area Plan (DAP) of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) or the installation of signboards containing warning notices regarding not changing the type of land was inaugurated on

this day.

At that time, the DNCC administrator informed about taking coordinated initiatives to protect about 1,500 acres of wetlands and reservoirs in Dhaka city as per DAP.

The DNCC administrator, after installing a notice board, said, "If we put up signboards at these reservoirs now, those who come to buy plots here will see that it has been officially declared as a reservoir."

As a result, ordinary buyers will no longer buy plots built by filling in reservoirs.

He said, "In the last three decades, the foundation of an immoral and black economy has been laid in the housing sector. Land has been commodified."

A necessary asset has been marketed in such a way that it is only within the reach of illegal earners. It has become almost impossible for those who live honestly in the capital to buy a flat or plot.

The event was attended by Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Chairman Engineer Md. Riazul Islam and many others.
