DNA Fest 2021, arranged virtually by Community of Biotechnology (CoB). Its purpose was to celebrate DNA Day and also bring together people from across the globe to partake in exciting competitions and hear from some of the most elite members and contributors in the field of Biosciences and Molecular Biology.
The fest was chaired by Dr. Ada Yonath, Nobel Laureate of Chemistry (2009). The session started with a talk on ‘Breakthroughs in the DNA research and our understanding of the mystery of life’ by eminent scientist of the country, Dr. Md. Toofazzal Islam. This was followed by Dr. Yonath’s talk on ‘Next Generation Antibiotics’. The event concluded with the announcement of the winners of the different categories of competitions, by Dr. Yonath herself. Both the speakers, Dr. Yonath and Dr. Tofazzal, lauded CoB for arranging such an auspicious event, amid the given pandemic.
They highly praised the active participation of all the audience and wished CoB for such event. The competition winner list is given that is organised in the middle of the event. For the DNA Parody, Riyan Al Islam Reshad, Deera Mahsin and Tawfiq Alam Jishan, secured Winner, 1st Runner up and 2nd Runner up positions, respectively. For the Comic Strip, Anindita Ash Prome was the Winner, Tahsin Mahmud Tanim was 1st Runner up, while Maisha Mubassira became the 2nd Runner up. For the ‘Explaining DNA-based Discovery in 3 minutes’ category, Omama Syed, Md. Ashiqur Rahman and Sayma Rahman, claimed the positions of Winner, 1st Runner up and 2nd Runner up, respectively. The winner of DNA Meme was Tanjin Barketullah Robin, Nabiha Tahsin Nuha was the 1st Runner Up and Nafisa Tabassum was 2nd Runner up. The organizing team and both the speakers were very ecstatic to see participants from a wide range of countries.
