Chattogram district administration conducted an operation on the basis of secret information that the fishermen of the river Karnaphuli are occupying the river and establishing a new structure in the Ghat area. During the operation, the truth of the incident was found.
District Administration Executive Magistrate Nu-Emong Marma Mong and SMN Jamiul Hikma conducted the operation in the Fishery Ghat area of Karnaphuli River on Friday afternoon.
During the campaign, 8 newly built buildings and 2 huts were demolished and the river bank was freed from encroachment.
Executive Magistrate Nu-Mong Marma Mong said illegal occupiers are warned. No concession will be made to any illegal encroachment on the banks of the river.
River banks are public trust property or public property. To ensure the ecological balance and sustainable management of the river, the Chattogram district administration will continue illegal eviction activities.
Its known that the Chattogram River Canal Protection Movement gave an ultimatum to eviction of the illegal construction of the Karnaphuli river within a week of human chain last November.
The court threatened to file contempt charges if the demand was not met.
