The Jatri Kalyan Samity, a passengers’ welfare organisation, requested the government to take immediate measures to disinfect all vehicles running on roads and highways to curb the transmission of coronavirus, reports UNB.
Samity Secretary Genarl Mozammel Haque Chowdhury made the demand in a media statement.
He also urged Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa), City Corporation and municipalities to jointly provide soap and hand sanitising equipment at all important stoppages on the highways.
Currently, workers of garments, factories, shops and shopping malls are returning to their work places using transports, the statement said.
In this situation, it will be difficult to stop the transmission of coronavirus if the vehicles are not disinfected properly, it said. Meanwhile, the country reported 790 new cases in the last 24 hours taking the confirmed cases to 11,719. So far 186 coronavirus patients have died.
