A Dhaka court has granted bail to television director Rafat Mozumder Rinku, who was involved in a case related to the murder of college student Mohammad Naimur Rahman. The incident took place during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the Gulshan area of the capital in July and August.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman made the decision after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence. The defence argued that Rinku's name was not mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR) and that he had no connections with the former ruling Awami League or its student wing, Bangladesh Chhatra League. They claimed that Rinku was falsely implicated in the case for harassment, which led to the court granting him bail.

On the other hand, the prosecution opposed the bail plea, asserting that Rinku was present at the crime scene and had direct involvement in the murder. During the hearing, the investigating officer of the case was present and updated the judge on the investigation's progress.

Rinku was arrested by Gulshan police on Monday night (September 24), and many cultural figures, artists, and his colleagues expressed shock over his sudden detention. Although the details surrounding his arrest were unclear, Officer-in-Charge Touhid Alam of Gulshan Police Station confirmed the arrest but did not provide further information.

Rafat Mozumder Rinku is a well-known director, having produced over 150 dramas, including popular titles such as "Rongin Asha," "Putuler Shongshar," "Itibritta," and "Rickshaw Girl." His work has earned him critical acclaim and numerous awards, including the Deepto TV Award and the Meril-Prothom Alo Award.
