In Parbatipur, Dinajpur, a 10th-grade student has accused an assistant teacher of humiliating her over unpaid exam fees. The incident took place at Public High School, sparking outrage among teachers, students, and parents.
According to reports, on 1 September at 10 a.m., Maria Akter Ria arrived to sit her SSC English First Paper exam. During the exam, Assistant Teacher (BSc) Mizanur Rahman reportedly entered the room, made Ria stand, and said, “Are you taking the exam with your father’s school and his pen and notebook?” The student was reportedly upset and left the exam hall in tears, informing her parents about the incident.
Ria reportedly told her parents she would not return to the school for exams and threatened self-harm if forced to attend. She has since missed her subsequent exams.
Two other teachers present at the exam centre said that even if fees were unpaid, the student should not have been humiliated publicly.
Headteacher Manik Kumar acknowledged the incident, saying he later learned that the student did not sit for the English Second Paper and called the matter deeply regrettable.
Parbatipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Saddam Hossain said that upon receiving a written complaint, a proper investigation will be conducted and appropriate action taken.
