Dinajpur expects bumper mango, litchi yield

Dinajpur district is known for Mango, litchi. Dinajpur's litchi is famous all over the country. Farmers of this region are expressing joy after seeing the buds of mango and litchi. In 13 upazilas of Dinajpur, this time all the mango and litchi trees have enough buds. .

Dinajur mango and litchi orchards are full of buds. The buds are peeking through the green leaves. Mango trees in 5,690 hectares of land and litchi trees in 5,480 hectares of land in the district have the potential to produce huge yields this time.

 Apart from houses, many people of Dinajpur's Sadar, Chirirbandar, Biral and other upazilas have cultivated mango and litchi orchards commercially. Most of the trees planted by them have buds. It's like a combination of yellow and green.

According to the Dinajpur Department of Agricultural Extension, the mango and litchi trees in Dinajpur have sprouted as expected this time as compared to last year. In the hope of getting more yield from these buds, the gardeners are already taking various care including application of medicine in the trees. However, farmers and traders are expecting bumper yields this time unless a major natural disaster occurs.

Siddiqur, owner of a mango orchard in Kasba area of Dinajpur city, said that most of the trees have buds in advance and there is a possibility of bumper yield this time. Sobhan Narayan Sharma of Nasratpur village in Chirirbandar upazila said there is no house without mango trees. So mango buds are scattering in every house. The fragrance in these buds seems to have fascinated people.

Speaking to litchi growers, it has been learned that litchi trees have better buds this time than last time. Now all that is needed is regular attendance and cooperation from the agriculture office. Farmers are seeing the possibility of higher yield if they can hold the buds of the tree.

Manjurul Haque, deputy director of Dinajpur Agriculture Extension Department, said, “Mango and litchi trees have sprouted a little earlier this time. In Dinajpur district, there are mango trees in 5,690 hectares of land and litchi trees in 5,480 hectares of land. Litchi cultivation has increased in 1,400 hectares of land this time as compared to last time. However, he hopes that if the weather is not bad, the rate at which the tree has buds may exceed the target.

Tourists and foodies come to Dinajpur from all over the country to taste the litchi of this region. Dinajpur's litchi is famous all over the country. Meanwhile, seasonal traders are nurturing the trees regularly. They are hoping for a bumper yield of mango-litchi this time.
