Passengers and pedestrians face difficulties while using Sagardighi-Sakhipur-Dhaka road in Tangail due to its dilapidated condition. The road is not suitable for the vehicular movement as many potholes were created on the road. Accidents have been occurring every day there.
Many vehicles, including agriculture goods laden trucks, ply on this busy road every day. Many parts of the road are broken. Huge potholes have been created on the road. People have been suffering as well as transport cost has risen due to the dilapidated condition of the road.
Several hundred agriculture goods laden trucks go to different areas of the country from the hilly Madhupur, Dhanbari, Ghatail and Sakhipur hilly areas of Tangail. Especially, pineapples, banana and papaya of this region are very popular among the people of the country. Moreover, several factories have been established in the area. The drivers often face many difficulties while transporting the goods. Around 20-kilometer area of the road from Borochowna to Sakhipur is the worst affected. Many parts of the road are waterlogged as rain water has become stagnant due to the large potholes on the road. As a result, accidents have been occurring every day.
Locals of the area said the dilapidated road has affected the price of the products as they have to count even double fare for the transport sector. So, the expense is getting higher. Moreover, their goods get spoiled when the goods laden trucks face any accident.
Besides transporting goods, passengers of five upazilas of Tangail and three upazilas of Mymensingh use this road. The residents of the areas have demanded quick repair of the road.
Sub-Divisional Engineer of Mirzapur Road Sub-Division of Tangail, Mohammad Saiful Islam Mollah, said a project of Tk 20 crore has already got permission for repair of the road. The work will be started soon, he added.
