Digitizing Agriculture through Innovation

Agri-Science Society (AgSS) of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University is an agricultural-based nonprofit organization of Bangladesh working towards the digitization of farming. This organization was co-founded in 2019 by MD Akram Khan, a student of University of Dhaka (DU) along with his friends of different agricultural universities. He is currently acting as Chief Operations Officer (COO) of AgSS. Through AgSS, he and his team are making sustainable agriculture by consulting farmers and arranging innovative programmes. For the immense contribution to the agriculture sector, AgSS was selected as a Change making organization from Bangladesh by Ashoka in 2020. 

The mission of AgSS is to help farmers by providing proper learnings, promoting agricultural technology and also connecting them to experts. AgSS also aim to facilitate agricultural education and research all over the world through its innovative project. Currently this organization is working on three crucial farming problems to solve- Traditional Farming, Food Insecurity, Lack of Quality of Agricultural Students and Farmers.

AgSS supports farmers by empowering them with knowledge, information and disseminating agricultural research. They recently organized the ‘Agriculture Virtual Summit’ which is one of the biggest agricultural online programs in Bangladesh organized once per year. In summit 2021, about 18 agricultural experts discussed specific farming themes and gave solutions to the farming crisis accordingly. 

Their ‘Farmer Consultation Program’ educates farmers about scientific practices of farming. To date, they have consulted over 500 farmers to make their farming more productive. They have successfully arranged 15 webinars as a Covid-19 response on different farming topics and shared over 100 articles on their platform to disseminate farming information.
