A public meeting in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar, organised by Dhara has called for the rehabilitation of climate refugees and protection of salt farmers, betel leaf growers, and fisherfolk.
Held on Saturday night at Kalarmar Chhara Government Primary School, the meeting condemned unchecked industrialisation, citing the destruction of mangrove forests and seizure of coastal farmlands. Speakers urged the government to cancel harmful projects and ensure proper environmental assessments before approving new ones.
Chief guest Sharif Jamil, Member Secretary of Dhara, spoke alongside environmentalists, academics, journalists, and local leaders, all calling for sustainable development that prioritises people and the planet.
