Mayor of Dhamrai Municipality Golam Kabir is supplying food for hundreds of hungry monkeys living under his areas.
It is learnt, during the countrywide Covid-19 quarantine and lock-down, several hundred monkeys living in various places including at municipal areas of Dhamrai were starving without food.
Being frustrated with hunger, those monkeys were creating nuisances in groups at Upazila Gate area, municipality office and often in houses under the municipality. Such menace and nuisance activities of monkeys make the people of the area fed up and frustrated.
Under such situation, Golam Kabir personally and officially arranged food for feeding the monkeys. Officials and employees of the municipality are visiting the residing areas of the monkeys with bread, banana and fruits filled in a pick-up and supplying those to those animals.
Moreover, activists of another voluntary organisation entitled 'Swopnodanga' were also distributing foods for the hungry monkeys. Sources said, Dhamrai is famous for some of its traditional utensils, fruits and animals for a long time. These are Bell Metal industries, Weaving Industries, Lemon and Monkeys.
Municipal Mayor Golam Kabir informed, a special budget has been allocated to save the Monkeys of the area from the Municipality and from his personal fund.
The allocated money is being used to purchase and distribute foods among the monkeys. He also called upon the well-off people of the society to come forward to supply foods for the monkeys.
