When general people are severely bearing the brunt of the price hike of essential commodities, Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) has proposed to raise the price of water by 24 per cent to 147 per cent based on categories. The Wasa raised the water price 14 times in the last 15 years.

The expenditures of the consumers in every category will rise if this proposal is implemented. Therefore, water prices in the city are set to see a sharp rise and Wasa’s proposal comes as a huge blow to the city dwellers.

The government will not give subsidies for water anymore. And Dhaka WASA can never stand on its own feet or make progress with subsidies, according to media reports. The increase in water prices will add to the woes of city people ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

Increasing the price of the Wasa’s water will consequently increase people’s cost of living and make their lives more miserable Ramadan is coming up.  The prices of all essentials are rising.

We general people are facing serious financial hardships currently as our expenses are exceeding our incomes. If the price of water is increased amid this situation, it will be a severe blow to us.

The Was a raised the

The price of water increases every year, but city people have been complaining about its poor quality for a long time. We think that Wasa’s proposal to increase the price of water due to the cost of its production is unreasonable and unacceptable.

We are demanding a judicial process over the matter, too. We think the government’s move to increase the water tariff will be an anti-people decision. If the water tariff is increased, the suffering of people will worsen further.

It would not be justified to raise the prices of water in any way. The Dhaka Wasa’s proposal of increasing the water of water by 24 per cent to 147 per cent is not acceptable in any way. Increasing water tariff will be an anti-people decision.

We general people are going through a tough time to cope with the growing price hike in essential commodities. In such a reality, ordinary people are struggling to make ends meet.

General people have an allegation that they are not getting enough water from Dhaka Wasa despite paying water bills every month. Many people also complained that the water of Wasa is dirty, stinky and not drinkable. We think the government should reconsider the proposals on increasing water price.
