Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Lakshmipur Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS) Ali Hasan Mohammad Ariful Islam was arrested on Friday in connection with treason and under the Cyber Security Act.
Officer-in-charge of Lakshmipur Sadar Model police station Md Abdul Munnaf confirmed the matter on Saturday evening.
According to the police, Ali Hasan Mohammad Ariful Islam was arrested in a case filed in connection with treason and under Cyber Security Act at Khilkhet police station in Dhaka. An army team arrested him from the Miyar Bedi Zonal Office area of the Bhabaniganj union in the sadar upazila on Friday evening.
Later, he was handed over to the Sadar Model Police Station. DGM Ali Hasan was in charge of that zonal office.
According to Palli Bidyut Samity sources, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB) dismissed DGM Arif earlier on October 17.
It is learnt that, a person named Arshad Hossain filed a case against Ali Hossain Mohammad Ariful Islam and four others in Khilkhet police station in Dhaka in connection with treason and under Cyber Security Act. According to police sources, the complainant in the case is the son of deceased Akbar Hossain, resident of Jugia village in Kushtia. Officials and employees of Lakshmipur PBS have been staging human chains and protest rallies for the past few months as part of a central program demanding a uniform service code and the permanent appointment of the contractual employees. When Asaduzzaman Khan, General Manager of Lakshmipur PBS, was asked about the matter on his mobile phone, he comfimred the matter. He also said another case was also filed against him in the local police station in connection with treason.
