Demands have been made to name the beautiful Marine Drive near the world's longest beach in Chattogram as Bangabandhu Marine Drive.

Professor of Dhaka University Researcher and Historian Dr Muntassir Mamoon who is the researcher of ‘Bangabandhu Chair’ at Chattogram University raised the demand.

He made the demand in context of the demand made by journalists to build a sculpture of Bangabandhu at Kalatali corner of Cox's Bazar on Wednesday.

He said that besides placing sculptures at the entrance of Marine Drive, the longest Marine Drive should also be named after Bangabandhu, the father of the nation and the Best Bengali of thousands years.

He also called on the journalists to continuously work for these two demands.

He made the demand while addressing a discussion organized by Cox's Bazar Press Club and Cox's Bazar Journalists Union on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day.

The discussion meeting was held at Cox's Bazar Press Club on Wednesday night under the chairmanship of Abu Taher, President of Cox's Bazar Press Club and Cox's Bazar Journalists Union.

Muntassir Mamoon said, there is a lot of discussion and writing about Bangabandhu. But all the writings were the same as none of them had complete information. But after the publication of Sheikh Hasina's six-volume and three-volume Bangabandhu's autobiography, new research data is being found.

When asked why Bangabandhu is called the father of the nation and why it is important to remember him, he said, "One thing is clear, Bangabandhu was thinking of Bangladesh since the fifties, which he has never deviated from. Bangabandhu never compromised on two questions, socialism and secularism. So if you love Bangabandhu, everyone has to abide by these two things”.

In the context of the current development of Sheikh Hasina, Muntasir Mamun said, “I did not expect such a Bangladesh. It was unbelievable that Bangladesh would go for such development. The gift of the house of the poor is one of the events in the world. He hopes that the development will go further now.”

Retired teacher of Chittagong University, children of martyrs and prominent freedom fighter Professor Dr.Gazi Saleh Uddin spoke as a special guest at the meeting. He said, “The correct history of the liberation war is necessary for our generation. Therefore, he emphasized on presenting accurate information based on Bangabandhu and the liberation war among the future generations of the nation.”

Cox's Bazar Journalists Union General Secretary Jahed Sarwar Sohail spoke at the discussion meeting along with prominent journalist Tofail Ahmed, Cox's Bazar Press Club General Secretary, Mujibul Islam and others. Before the discussion, a wreath was laid at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
