A human chain was formed at the school gate on Thursday demanding the arrest and execution of the accused in the murder case of Ratma Akter Reshmi, a 7th class student of Pulhat Battala Girls' High School in Dinajpur Biral Upazila. Speakers at human chain said, Ratna Akhter Reshmi was a 7th class student of our school. She was a very talented and sociable girl. We are shocked by his murder. They demanded immediate arrest of the culprit and execution of maximum punishment.
At that time, they said, Rashed, the son of Abdur Razzak of the same area, had a greedy vision while going to school. He often came up with bad proposals in the name of marriage. In this context, on May 2, Rashed kidnapped Ratna in a filmy style and got her married against her will. A few days after the alleged marriage, accused Rashed demanded a dowry of Tk 2 lakh. When Ratna's family could not meet the demand for dowry, Rashed and his family members continued to beat and torture her at different times. The deceased often told his parents about the torture. Ratna's parents protested but nothing came of it.” “Finally, on the evening of January 20 this year at around 6:30 pm, Ratna was brutally tortured and beaten and at one stage Ratna fell unconscious and died. Ratna's father Ershad Ali filed a case against Rashed and five others in the Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal,” they added.
Hundreds of students and locals, including 10th class student Brishti, UP member Harisur Rahman Haris, school headmaster Shree Kant Dev Sharma, father of the deceased Ershad, locals Abdur Rahim and Milon, were present in front of the school.
