DEC Bangladesh, an award-winning youth organisation based on skill development, career and social leadership development, has launched a campaign titled ‘Keep Your Environment Clean and Liveable’ in Chattogram to address the growing threat of climate change.

The campaign was supported by Young Bangla.

As part of this initiative, members of DEC Bangladesh conducted a thorough cleaning on Friday morning at the public park called "Mukt Manch" adjacent to Kazir Dewri in Chattogram city.  A total of 17 bags of polythene, plastics, bottles and garbage were collected and dumped in the designated dustbins.  At the end of the cleaning, the members conducted an awareness programme for the public and visitors.

DEC founder Somen Kanungo, Director Sohan Masud, Ehteshamul Haque and members -- Robin, Sajjad and Rajdeep -- took part in the campaign.

DEC Bangladesh members said this initiative has had a transformative effect on collaborative action to address the environmental challenges. This initiative is expected to play an important role in protecting the healthy environment in places where people are suffering due to excessive temperature in recent times.

Somen Kanungo, Founder of DEC, said a smart city is not just about beautiful buildings or parks. “To build a smart city, we need to build a smart youth society who will be aware of the environment and will transform the city into a clean and peaceful one.”

He emphasised the importance of collective action in shaping a sustainable future for present and future generations.

He said DEC Bangladesh will work on environmental change by involving youths to deal with climate change for building a green and liveable world in addition to creating a youth society free from unemployment through skill development.
