Amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, there are widespread allegations of maltreatment of patients at various hospitals across the country. Despite repeated warnings from the government, patients are still being denied treatment in hospitals.

Now in port city Chattogram, another patient died on Wednesday allegedly being denied treatment by reputed hospitals suspecting him a Covid-19 patient.

The deceased name is Preeti Bikash Dutta, 62, who lived with his family in South Nalapara area. At 8.30 pm on Wednesday, his son Abhijit Dutt rushed to the hospital with his father due to sudden chest pain.

Abhijit went to Chattogram’s Ma-Moni Hospital, Max, National Hospital but his father was denied of treatment. Later he was forced to take him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital but he died on the way to the emergency department.

Abhijit's friend Vijay told media that he arranged an ambulance after receiving the news that his friend’s father was ill. They have taken the ambulance to three hospitals. However, his father was not admitted to any hospital.

He added that the hospitals did not provide treatment after suspecting him a COVID patient. However, the results of the corona test at Imperial Hospital came negative. In such a situation, the question has arisen again about the inability of medical services in Chattogram.

In this regard, the Deputy Governor of the Bangladesh Human Rights Commission Aminul Haque Babu told the media, “Patients are dying due to lack of medical services in private hospitals. The authorities are still silent about this. But I do not see any visible progress in the committee formed on the issues. There is talk of revoking the licenses of the hospitals but there is no implementation.”

Meanwhile, Vice President of Chattogram BNP Lion Kamal Uddin died at Treatment Hospital in Ctg on Thursday evening.

City BNP unit President Dr Shahadat Hossain said that Kamal Uddin had symptoms of corona. He was taken to M-Moni Hospital first due to increased respiratory problems. He sat there for about two hours, without getting oxygen.

He also said that although, all the hospitals were searched no empty ICU bed was found anywhere and Kamal died due to lack of ICU bed. City BNP leaders mourned his death.
