Chattogram District Administration has provided cash assistance to 278 helpless, destitute and extremely poor families living in the hills of Chattogram city that were affected by heavy rains and the corona pandemic situation.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chattogram Mohammad Mominur Rahman as the chief guest handed over Tk 1,000 to each family at a function held at the gymnasium hall adjacent to MA Aziz Stadium in the city on Saturday morning. A total of Tk 2 lakh 78 thousand was distributed among 278 families from the allocation received from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.
Chattogram Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) SM Zakaria presided over the function while Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Masud Kamal, Executive Magistrate Md Masud Rana, Umar Farooq, District Relief Officer Sajeeb Kumar Chakraborty, District Nazir Md Jamal Uddin and others were present. Trinamul Natyadal and Better Future Bangladesh assisted in the distribution of cash.
Chattogram DC Md Mominur Rahman said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed to ensure that no one in the society is left destitute during the government imposed lockdown amid the Corona situation”.
As per the instructions of the government, cash and relief assistance has been provided to the unemployed people of the society as well as the helpless, destitute and extremely poor families living in the foothills and affected by the heavy rains.
Earlier, the district administration had provided cash and relief assistance to the disabled, day laborers, hairdressers, cobblers, tanners, construction workers, van drivers, transgender and people living on the roadsides, he added.
“Among the lower and middle class people who are hesitant to seek help in public or call the government on 333 and send an SMS to us asking for help, gifts are being delivered to their homes every night”, said the DC.
