DB unearths illegal wine factory, arrests six

Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in an overnight drive on Monday night arrested six people in connection with illegally producing adulterated alcohol from different parts of Dhaka city.

Talking to the Bangladesh Post, Deputy Commissioner of DB (Gulshan Division) Md Moshiur Rahman confirmed it.

He said, “We also seized huge amount of  adulterated liquor and various items which were being used for making  adulterated  wine from the fake wine factory.”

The arrestees were identified as Mantosh Chandra Adhikari alias Akash 35, Redwan Ullah 35, Sagar Bepari,28, Nasir Ahmed alias Ruhul 48, Mohammad Jahangir Alam, 45 and Syed Al Amin, 30.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB’s Gulshan Division raided at Tejgaon and Bhatara areas of the capital on Monday night.

“We nabbed Mantosh, Redwan and Sagar  from in front of Yantun Chinese Restaurant in Tejgaon  area at 8:45 pm on Monday. On the basis of the information provided by them, we later arrested Nasir, the owner of the factory, manager Al Amin and employee Jahangir after a search in the fake wine factory. Huge amount of adulterated foreign liquor, empty liquor bottles, cork, stickers, spirits, synthetic dyes were recovered from the adulterated liquor factor,” he added.

During the preliminary interrogation, Nasir disclosed that he used to make and sell adulterated liquors for a long time, said the boss of DB’s Gulshan division. 

There has been a crisis of foreign wine in warehouses recently. Using this chance  they set up a factory to make adulterated wine. They collected spirits, stickers and paints from the Midford Hospital. 

Then they use these items to make adulterated wine. The manufactured adulterated liquor was sold to various retailers and wholesalers by other members of the gang.  Drinkers used to get these adulterated wine from them, said DC Moshiur.

Responding to a question, the senior DMP official said, “We shall continue our drives against adulterated alcohol.”
