Darshana sugarcane farmers’ children to get stipend

The authorities of Darshana Sugar Mills have taken a plan to provide stipend to the poor students who are the children of sugarcane farmers.  It was known that the stipend would be given to the students from the next month. The authorities will also allot fund for development of educational institutes.   

According to the sources, the sugarcane producers sell their products as well the sugarcane to the mills. Authorities of the mills keep Tk 50 from per mound of sugarcane for education aid fund. As a result, Tk 21, 56, 556 was deposited to the fund. Of the total amount, Tk 6, 47, 856 will be given for the development of educational institutes, while Tk 13, 88, 700 will be distributed as stipend for the students and Tk 1, 20, 000 for other purposes.

Of the total stipend, Tk 3, 24, 000 would be given as stipend to the students in Chuadanga Sadar upazila, while Tk 27, 700 for Alamdanga upazila, Tk 5, 09, 000 for  Damurhuda upazila and Tk 5, 28, 000 for Jibannagar upazila.

Talking to the Bangladesh Post, Jahed Al Ansari, Managing Director of Darshana Sugar Mills, said children of many sugarcane cultivators have been studying in different educational institutes. Some of them cannot bear educational expenses of their children. “We will identify such type of families and provide stipend to their children. We believe that this programme will encourage sugarcane farmers,” he said.
