About 25 metrte length road at Kabirpur portion of Shailkupa municipality of Jhenaidah remain under water during the monsoon as no maintenance work was done in past years. As a result the traffic vehicles even the pedestrians suffer a lot. But the local government engineering department (LGED) is keeping their eyes closed.

Locals said about 25 metres road owned by LGED went unfit for traffic and pedestrians movement about four years back. The authorities about two years back had put some brick bats on the road to ensure movement. But the ditches and holes could not be filled up duly that helps the water stagnant round the monsoon.

Shop owner Jhantu Mia of the area said their commodities become dirty when any traffic vehicle cross the road. Further, more or less road accidents have been taking pace frequently as the road goes under dirty water. It has been degrading the environment, Jhantu Mia said.

Mizanur Rahman, upazila engineer (UE) of the LGED in Shailkupa when contacted said they had informed the matter to their higher authorities long ago. They have been waiting for further steps by the said authorities, UE said.
