Daily Covid cases drop to 589, lowest since May 16

Bangladesh registered 24 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Saturday. The total number of deaths has reached to 27,555 with the latest figure.   

The country recorded 589 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,557,347, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday.

The death rate now stands at 1.77 percent in the country, added the release. 

The positivity rate has been below five percent for the twelfth day in a row. Covid-19 situation is considered under control if the infection rate remains below five percent for two consecutive weeks.

The current positivity rate stands at 3.41 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 15.93 percent. 

Among the 24 deceased, 15 were men, and nine were women. 14 of the deceased were from Dhaka, four from Chattogram, two from Rangpur and one each from Khulna, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Barisal. 

A total of 17,283 samples were tested across the country till 8am Saturday. 

During this period 741 Covid-19 patients have recovered. A total of 1,517,642 people have recovered from the virus so far and the recovery rate stands at 97.45 percent.

As of Saturday 4,807,896 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 235,174,398 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
