CWASA to add 1900km pipeline for round the clock water supply

The Chattogram Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (CWASA) will build 1,900 kilometers of new pipelines in phases to water to entire port city round the clock.

Of the pipelines, 700 kilometers will be constructed by December 2022, said CWASA Managing Director Engineer AKM Fazlullah while inaugurating a pipeline expansion project at Shershah Chittagong Journalist Co-operative Housing Society area on Thursday.

Funded by the World Bank, the pipelines and reservoirs are being set up for water supply in the Journalist Housing Society under the Chittagong Water Supply Development and Sanitation Project.

Fazlullah said the production of CWASA water will increase by another 14 crore liters after the Sheikh Hasina Water Treatment Plant-2 in Rangunia will be in operation by next December. 

If another 50 crore liters of water is supplied daily the port’ city demand will be met, he added.

Presided over by Chittagong Journalists Co-operative Housing Society President Swapan Kumar Mallik, General Secretary Hasan Ferdous conducted the event.

WASA Board Member Mohsin Kazi, Deputy Managing Director (Administration) Tahera Ferdous Begum, Chief Engineer Maqsood Alam, Secretary Sharmin Alam, Project Director Engineer Ariful Islam, NTV Chittagong Bureau chief Shamsul Haque Haidari, Society member Sukhmoy Chakraborty among others were present on the occasion.
