The Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) and Indonesia’s oldest and largest public university, the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in education, research, and academic development. The agreement marks a significant step toward international collaboration and knowledge sharing between the two institutions.

The five-year agreement was signed recently during the visit of CVASU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Lutfur Rahman to Indonesia. CVASU’s Veterinary Medicine Faculty Dean and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Lutfur Rahman, signed the MoU on behalf of CVASU, while Professor Dr. Teguh Budipitojo, Dean of UGM’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, signed on behalf of UGM. The agreement includes provisions for renewal upon its expiration, reflecting the long-term commitment of both universities to collaborate.

Under the MoU, a series of student exchange programs will begin in 2026. Fifteen 5th-year CVASU veterinary students are scheduled to undertake a one-month internship at UGM in July–August next year, gaining exposure to advanced veterinary practices and research methodologies. At the same time, ten 3rd-year UGM veterinary students will visit CVASU for a one-month internship, providing them with hands-on experience in local veterinary and animal science practices in Bangladesh.

Professor Dr. Rahman highlighted that UGM will also provide full scholarships for CVASU faculty and students, supporting two individuals for Master’s programs and one for a PhD program. This initiative is expected to foster higher-level research and strengthen academic capacity at CVASU.

Beyond student exchanges and scholarships, the MoU outlines comprehensive measures to enhance academic and research collaboration, including the exchange of faculty members and researchers, joint research initiatives, collaborative lectures, conferences, seminars, and symposia, and sharing of academic resources and materials. These activities are expected to broaden the international exposure of both students and faculty while promoting innovation and best practices in veterinary education and research.

Expressing optimism about the agreement, Professor Dr. Rahman said the partnership with UGM will provide global opportunities for CVASU students and researchers, strengthen academic ties, and contribute to the overall advancement of veterinary science education and research in Bangladesh.
