Cumilla Central Jail takes step to control Covid

Cumilla Central Jail authorities have taken several steps as part of corona virus control public awareness as the second wave of corona virus infection has increased.

Senior Superintendent of the Jail Shahjahan Ahmed and Jailer Md Asadur Rahman said there are 537 officers and employees including jail guards at the jail and 408 of them are currently working their. There are 2607 prisoners including 125 women and 12 children staying there.

The whole world have been infected with the Corona virus. 28 lakh 39 thousand people have already died from it, out of which 9 thousand 1 hundred 55 people died in Bangladesh. Experts are concerned with the overall situation of this infection. The infection rate, they say, was stable. The detection rate dropped to 3%. However, leaping from it is now increasing everyday and it seems that the second wave is spreading like a tsunami.

According to the steps taken by Cumilla Central Jail Authority only 64 people can enter the jail in the morning wearing masks after washing their hands with soap. Soap and water will be kept in the cells of the prisoners so that they can wash their hands to keep themselves germ free. Prisoners can talk to their relatives on the phone once a week.

Calls have been made to hold virtual courts to protect prisoners from going to court. No guards or officials of the jail would be able to go on leave during the lockdown. The new inmates will enter the jail after their temperature is measured and will be kept in isolation for 14 days.

Prison guards will wear PP while taking prisoners to medical centres. Visitors must enter the prison by washing their hands with soap at the gate and wearing face masks. These instructions were implemented at Cumilla Central Jail on April 2. Prison authorities have banned visits to all inmates from next Monday (April 5), according to government guidelines.
