Mymensingh district administration officials on Monday distributed financial aid provided by the Ministry of Culture among 105 indigent cultural workers of the district. State Minister for Culture KM Khalid MP was present as the chief guest at the distribution programme virtually which was presided over by Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Haque.
The State Minister for Culture said the present culture-friendly government led by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very sincere about the cultural activists. He said a one-time financial assistance of Tk 4.65 crore has been provided to more than 10,000 cultural workers who lost their jobs in the country last year due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. This year in the second phase, financial grants are being distributed among the unemployed cultural workers in lockdown. As part of which, special grant checks are being distributed among the indigent cultural activists of Mymensingh district on Monday.
The chief guest said various plans are being taken and implemented to develop Mymensingh as a cultural city. An open stage has already been constructed in front of the district gymnasium. Initiatives have been taken to build a cultural zone around the Zainul Abedin Museum on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. A project in this regard is already under being discussed. He hoped that the DPP of the project would be approved by next October after the completion of the survey. The project has several modern standard museums, 3 auditoriums, art galleries and various other beautiful installations.
Mymensingh District Awami League General Secretary Advocate Moazzem Hossain Babul, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ICT and Education) Nasrin Sultana, District Cultural Officer Md Hamidur Rahman were present on the occasion.
It is to be mentioned that out of 105 cultural activists, 12 of them were directly handed over the cheques due to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
