Farmer Shafiqul Islam of Ishwardi has cultivated coloured Cauliflowers in his field during the current season. The Yellow and Purple coloured Cauliflowers are being produced in his field. These coloured Cauliflowers are drawing a huge crowd in his field and he is also selling those cauliflower at a high price.
It is learnt, Shafiqul Islam of village Char Mirkmari under the Salimpur union of the upazila has been involved with the farming of vegetables for a long time. The coloured Cauliflowers he produced this year are charming to look at and also tastes nice. He has cultivated this coloured Cauliflower on his 10 kathas of land. He informed, officials of the NGO Jagoron Chakra Foundation inspired him to cultivate the coloured Cauliflower. He purchased 1o grams of seeds of the coloured Cauliflower at Taka 5,000 and grew saplings from the seeds and then those saplings were planted on 10 Kathas of land.
He further said he was suspicious about the success of cultivation of these new varieties of Cauliflower but he has succeeded at last.
Shafiqul Islam informed, at first he contacted the officials of Upazila Agriculture Officials to assist him in cultivating Coloured Cauliflowers but they did not cooperate with him.
Later, from his initiative, he cultivated the coloured Cauliflowers and the yield was more than his expectation.
These cauliflowers are being sold at a very satisfactory price from the field. At the local markets, he is also selling this vegetable at Tk. 60 to 70 per kilogramme. Being profitable, he wishes to extend the cultivation of the coloured Cauliflowers in future.
Meeta Sarker, Upazila Agriculture Officer of Ishawrdi informed, that a farmer named Shafiqul has cultivated coloured cauliflowers for the first time in the upazila.
She said she would inspire the farmers to cultivate these varieties of cauliflowers in future.
