The Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) has given a one-month ultimatum for providing charge-sheet into the death of Rafida Khan Raifa, the 2-year-old daughter of senior vice-president of CUJ Mohammad Rubel Khan who died for negligence during treatment.
The journalist leaders gave this ultimatum from a human chain formed in front of the Chittagong Press Club on Monday (June 26).
Criticizing the role of the investigating agency for not completing the investigation even after five years of filing the case, the CUJ leaders said that the police have been making various excuses with the case since the beginning. Later, after the case was transferred from the police station to the PBI, it is unfortunate that the investigation has not been completed yet.
The human chain was presided over by CUJ president Tapan Chakraborty. CUJ General Secretary Shamsul Islam, former President Mostak Ahmad, General Secretary of Chittagong Press Club Devdulal Bhowmik, Senior Vice President of CIU Mohammad Rubel Khan, Vice President Anindya Tito, President of Chittagong Citizens Forum Barrister Monowar Hossain, Bangladesh Federal Journalist Union Joint Secretary-General Mohsin Kazi and others were present at the human chain.
On the night of June 29 in 2018, Rafida Khan Raifa died due to the negligence of the doctors and the hospital authorities while undergoing treatment at Max Hospital in Chittagong.
