CUET IT incubator to revolutionise research

The Sheikh Kamal IT Business Incubator under construction on the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) campus will create a revolution in the field of education and research in the country, said Bangladesh University Grants Commission Member Prof Dr Md Sajjad Hossain.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of a two-day national workshop on big data and machine learning organized by CUET’s Computer Science and Engineering department.

He said the global education and health system have faced daunting challenges during coronavirus pandemic, he said on Wednesday.

However, Bangladesh has been dealing with the situation under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Prof Sajjad said big data and machine learning are new dimensions of technology in the current reality.

These advanced technologies must be utilized for the development of our nation and economic, he added.

Addressing the programme, CUET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said Bangladesh is now an emerging name in the digital world under the dynamic leadership of the Prime Minister. 

“We are already seeing the rapid change in the information and communication technology sector and its benefits. 

Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, robotics, 3D printing, the Internet of Things, blockchain and advanced wireless technology will help us advance our capabilities to meet the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution," he added.

Presided over by Prof Dr. Mohammad Samsul Arefin, Dr. Muhammad Kamruzzaman, Dean, Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Syed Zahurul Islam, Project Director, Sheikh Kamal IT Business Incubator at CUET, Md. Rezaul Karim, Project Director, LICT, Bangladesh Computer Council, Chairman, IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter and  Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak, Pro-Vice Chancellor of University Bangladesh, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mashiul Haque, Director of Sheikh Kamal IT Business Incubator and Prof. Dr. Asaduzzaman, Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Workshop and Head of the Department of CUET Computer Science and Engineering were present.

The two-day workshop will feature 5 keynote spaces, 8 technical sessions, 7 invited talks and 2 tutorial sessions.

Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority and LICT provide all cooperation for the workshop while IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter is the technical co-sponsor of the event.
