Chittagong University (CU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shirin Akhter has been nominated for the 'Begum Rokeya Padak-2020' for her outstanding contributions towards the society and women empowerment.
She will receive the award from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs on December 9.
CU Acting Registrar Prof SM Monirul Hasan confirmed the matter to the Bangladesh Post on Monday.
VC Shirin Akhter Begum has been nominated for the Rokeya Medal for her pioneering role in women's development including women's education, women's rights, literature and culture, Prof Hasan said.
The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs initiates the celebration of 'Begum Rokeya Day' and gives 'Begum Rokeya Padak'.
On July 1, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs called for applications stating that five women would be awarded the Begum Rokeya Padak for their special contribution to women's education, women's rights, women's socio-economic development, women's awakening through literature and culture and rural development.
