CU research team identifies mosquito larva in Chattogram

A research team, Chittagong University (CU) has identified Aedes mosquito larva in 15 spots of the city. After collecting samples from 57 spots in 99 areas of Chattogram, the study found 100% Aedes larva in 15 spots.

Dr. Rabiul Hasan Bhuiyan, the convener of the research team and CU Proctor confirmed the matter to Bangladesh Post on Sunday.   

Earlier, the researchers conducted the survey from 5 July. The report of this study will be submitted to Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) this month. 

CCC took the initiative to test the quality of the medicine used to kill mosquitoes. After the request of CCC to test the medicine, CU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shirin Akhtar formed a six-member committee while Dr. Rabiul Hasan Bhuiyan, Proctor of CU, led the team. 

According to the research team, Aedes mosquito larva have been found in flower tubs, discarded plastic containers, stored battery cells and tires, and rainwater from pipes along the road in Chattogram. 100% of the larva collected from these areas belonged to Aedes.

The convener of the research team Rabiul Hasan Bhuiyan, said that the research team conducted a survey on 5 July and collected mosquito larva from different places. 

The final report of the study will be given to the City Corporation this month. Hopefully, this study will provide information about effective mosquito repellent-he added.
