CU places Tk 346cr budget

University of Chittagong (CU) announced a budget of Tk 346.30 crore for the fiscal year 2020-21 with the highest allocation in the salary allowance sector at the 32nd Senate meeting on Sunday morning. 

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Shirin Akhter presided over the meeting held at the Vice-Chancellor's Conference Room at the AR Mallick Building of the University.

The budget of Tk 346.30 crore was approved against the demand of Tk 514.13 crore. Out of the 346 crore UGC will provide Tk 329.80 crore and Tk 16 crore 50 lakh will be obtained from the income of the university. The remaining Tk 5 crore 55 lakh has been mentioned as deficit. This year, the budget has allocated Tk 222.20 crore for the salary allowance sector, which is 64.16 per cent of the total budget.

The research sector has been allocated Tk 4 crore 20 lakh, which is 1.21 per cent of the total budget. Besides, Tk 2 crore 41 lakh 20 thousand has been allocated for research and capacity building of the Institute of Marine Science and Fisheries and Tk 3 crore 50 lakh for transport and Tk 56 lakh for medical sector. 

The Senate approved a revised budget of Tk 335.65 crore for the last fiscal year 2019-20. Acting Registrar of the University Professor SM Monirul Hasan presented this year's budget.

The Senate meeting was attended by Director General of Bangla Academy Habibullah Siraji, Reserved Member of Parliament Wasika Ayesha Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Sociology Prof. Dr. Mustafizur Rahman Siddiqui, Dean of the Faculty of Science Nasim Hasan and others.
