CU celebrates World Environment Day

World Environment Day has been celebrated on the occasion of World Environment Day with the theme 'Only One Earth: Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature'.

 World Environment Day was celebrated on the university campus on Sunday morning.  On this occasion, a colorful rally was held under the leadership of CU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Shirin Akhtar and in the presence of CU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Benu Kumar Dey.  A seminar titled 'Life and Work' of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was held at CU Biology Faculty Auditorium.  

Chittagong University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shirin Akhter was present as the chief guest in the seminar.  CU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Benu Kumar Dey, CU Dean Faculty of Biology Prof. Dr. Md. Touhid Hossain were present as special guests.  Cox's Bazar International University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Golam Kibria Bhuiyan presented the keynote address.

 Dr. Shahidul Islam, Associate Professor of the Department, presented a special essay titled 'Bangabandhu's Environmental Thoughts' at the seminar.  CU Geography and Ecology Department President Dr. Md. Ali Haider presided. 

Dr. Md. Atiqur Rahman, Associate Professor of the Department and Convener of the Day Celebration Committee and Assistant Professor Hiamul Islam spoke on the occasion.  The program was conducted by Associate Professor Nazneen Nahar Sultana.

CU VC said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the ambassador of liberation of Bengali nation.  This great man has struggled all his life to give the Bengali nation the gift of an independent nation state in the bosom of the world.  The more seminars, symposiums, workshops on the life and work of the Father of the Nation, the more the children of the generation will be able to know about the Father of the Nation.

 She said, "Trees are the best friend of the environment.” There is no substitute for tree planting to save the world from desertification and to save Bangladesh from the perilous threat posed by climate change.

 The seminar was attended by distinguished teachers, proctors and assistant proctors, students and staff.
