CU celebrates ‘Chittagong Research Festival’ for the first time

Chittagong University to promote the research activities and on the occasion of Dr Jamal Nazrul Islam's 84th birthday, Jamal Nazrul Islam Mathematics and Physical Sciences Research Center and Chittagong University Research and Higher Study Society (CURHS) jointly organized the theme 'Chittagong for Research and Innovation'.  A research, innovation and publication fair titled 'Chittagong Research Festival' was held for the first time in Chittagong University.

On this occasion, Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Shireen Akhtar inaugurated the festival as the chief guest at the discussion meeting organized in the premises of CU Shahid Minar.  CU Pro VC (Academic) Professor Benu Kumar Dey and CU Science Faculty Dean Professor Dr Mohammad Nasim Hasan were present as special guests.

 Bangladesh Engineering University former professor, researcher and scientist Dr Mohammad Kaykobad was present as the keynote speaker in the event. 

Professor Dr Anjan Kumar Chowdhury, director of Jamal Nazrul Islam Mathematics and Physical Science Research Center and coordinator of the research fair, presided over the event.  Professor Dr. Abul Mansur Chowdhury, former director of Jamal Nazrul Islam Mathematics and Physical Science Research Center and member-secretary of the research fair, Professor Dr Alak Pal of the Department of Geography and Environment spoke.  The moderator of CURHS, director of the research fair, Professor Dr Adnan Mannan and Dr Jamal Nazrul Islam's daughter Sadaf Siddiqui gave a speech.

Also, renowned researchers from various universities and other educational institutions participating in the research fair spoke.

CU VC said, without knowledge and research, it is not possible to stand tall on the earth.  For this, teachers-researchers and students need a lot of research in their own discipline. 

It is the need of the hour to develop a culture of presentation of research activities in the country and to take massive initiatives for its expansion.  Such research fairs can play an important role in building a knowledge-based society.

She said, on the occasion of the 84th birthday of renowned scientist Professor Dr Jamal Nazrul Islam, the festival organized by CU Jamal Nazrul Islam Mathematics and Physical Science Research Center and Chittagong University Research and Higher Study Society to present the research work of researchers is highly commendable.  In this, as the researchers are getting the opportunity to present their research work, on the other hand, the interest in research is also being created among the young teachers-researchers and students.  If this kind of festival is organized regularly, the researchers will devote themselves to the research work with more enthusiasm.

 Sylvia Nazneen, a student of the university, moderated the discussion program.  Chittagong University 50 departments of 7 faculties, 40 labs and research groups and more than 20 different universities and other educational institutions of Chittagong participated in the research fair.  A total of 103 stalls presented research work at the fair.
