Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said, 'I am a student of Chittagong University, about 41 years ago I was admitted here as a student;  Chittagong University is always green and fresh in my heart.  Chittagong University campus is the most beautiful among other universities in the country.  I get nostalgic when I come here.  The university is not only teaching, not giving degrees, the main task of the university is to practice knowledge and conquer the world through the practice of this knowledge. Infrastructure development is not overall development; Real development is development of teaching, development of knowledge and development of multi-dimensional cultural practices. He said this while addressing the chief guest at the CU 57th anniversary celebrations on Friday.

He said, through the seminar-symposium, all the achievements of the teachers-researchers including the research activities will be able to be presented at the international level and also the reputation of Chittagong University will increase in the world.  The former students of this university have made achievements in various fields in education-research, national and international levels and continue to play an immense role in building the country and society.  The research activities of Chittagong University and researchers from abroad will be published which will increase the importance of Chittagong University in the outside world.

Information Minister said, 'BNP will hold a rally in Dhaka city on December 10.  The Awami League government has helped BNP to beautify the assembly after hoping for power.  But if BNP creates chaos in the streets of Dhaka in the name of public meeting, the people will expel them.  On August 21, 2004, under the patronage of the BNP government, terrorists killed our activists in a grenade attack.  Awami League meetings have been bombed and grenade repeatedly.  But when we are in power we have arranged for them to rally nicely.  They gave provocative speeches in public meetings.  After that I ordered our leaders and workers to be restrained.

At the beginning of the program, the main program was started with the National Anthem.  On the occasion, the chief guest and guests were welcomed with flowers by the university.  Besides, on the occasion of the 57th Chittagong University Day, the CU campus was beautifully decorated and illuminated.  A wonderful cultural program was held in the second phase of the program.
