The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was inspired by the mantra of introduction of Bangla language at all levels and in pursuance of the Government's 1987 Act on Introduction of Bangla Language at all levels, The Chittagong University Act, 1973 and a project for translation of university statutes into Bengali was undertaken by Chittagong University authorities.
A meeting of the translation committee was held in the meeting room of the Vice-Chancellor's office under the chairmanship of Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Shirin Akhter on Monday morning. Honourable members of the translation committee at the meeting, CU Bangla Department Professor Dr Mohammad Mahibul Aziz, CU Law Department Professor Dr Morshed Mahmud Khan, CU Dean Faculty Dean Professor Dr Abdullah Al Farooq, CU English Department Professor Mainul Hasan Chowdhury, CU Election and Rules Branch Deputy Registrar Mohammad Yusuf were present. Copies of the Bengali translation of the 22 statutes of the University of Chittagong were presented at the meeting and after a detailed review; it was decided to complete the work of quick editing.
It may be mentioned that Chittagong University is the first and only university among the public universities in Bangladesh to have completed the translation work of The Chittagong University Act, 1973 in Bengali in 2018, which was approved by the decision of Chittagong University Syndicate No. 11 held in 2016. Copies of the translation have been sent to various government departments including Ministry of Law, Ministry of Education, University Grants Commission. The translation work has been praised by various ministries and departments.
