CU accords reception to MA Malek for winning Ekushey Padak

Ekushey Padak winner Daily Azadi Editor MA Malek was given a reception by by the  Chittagong University on Thursday in the conference room of the CU Vice-Chancellor's Office.

Chittagong University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shirin Akhtar presided over the function.  CU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Benu Kumar Dey was present on the occasion as a special guest.  The meeting was moderated by CU Registrar (Acting) Prof. SM Monirul Hasan.  Speaking on the occasion were CU Proctor Dr. Rabiul Hasan Bhuiyan and MA Malek's son Waheed Malek, Shihab Malek.  

During the program, financial assistance sanctioned from the optional fund of His Excellency the President was provided for the disabled students of the university and among the meritorious students, Engineer Abdul Khaleq, Daily Azadi Scholarship was also given.

She said that the CU family is happy and proud to be able to give a reception to this eminent journalist who has been awarded the Ekushey Padak.  MA Malek, the head of Dainik Azadi, described him as a gentleman, a generous man, a philanthropist and a social worker.  

MA Malek is a successful man as a result of hard work, passion, enthusiasm and above all relentless hard work.  The work ethic of these successful people is exemplary for others in the society.

 CU Vice-Chancellor said that although the first newspaper in Bangladesh after independence was Dainik Azadi, a regional newspaper, it was still revered as a mouthpiece of the common man through its objective news coverage.  CU Vice Chancellor handed over the scholarship checks among the scholarship recipients.  

The Vice-Chancellor presented the distinguished guest with an honorary crest emblazoned with the monogram of the University.

CU VC said that the magazine has been working for the masses for 62 long years as the first magazine of independence.  He never worked in the hope of receiving an award;  Out of his own responsibility, he has always tried to do something for the people.  

Dainik Azadi hopes that the scholarships for the students of Chittagong University will increase for the students with disabilities in the future. 

Scholarship students express their feelings.  Deans of various faculties of CU, teachers, assistant proctors, office heads, journalists and students were present on the occasion.
