The Chittagong Zila Parishad provided scholarships to 342 meritorious students at higher secondary and university levels.
The students were awarded scholarships at a programme at the Bangabandhu Hall of Chittagong Press Club on Friday. Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel was the chief guest on the occasion with Chittagong North District unit Awami League President and Chittagong Zila parishad Chairman MA Salam in the chair.
Minister Nowfel said, "Talent is not enough to be a good person. To be a good person, you (students) must have ethics and learn moral education. Unethical education does not benefit the society.” The purpose of education is to awaken the values of the people and to develop moral character. Getting rewarded for being a good student is not a big deal. It is a great thing to do something for the country by studying well. You must be patriotic and kind from the student life. We must learn to protest against injustice,” he added.
Citing the country cannot develop without skill-based education, the Deputy Minister said the government has given priority to technical education. Age limit of admission has been relaxed to spread technical education and it’s impossible to get a good job at home and abroad without technical education, he added. Chittagong Zila Parishad Chief Executive Officer Shabbir Iqbal and Chairman of Chattogram Education Board Professor Pradeep Chakraborty were present at the event.
