Chattogram Zila Parishad has announced a budget of 354 crore 31 lakhs 45 thousand 889.47 taka for the financial year 2023-24. The development expenditure has been estimated at Tk125 crores in the budget.
This budget was presented in the monthly meeting of Zila Parishad held on Wednesday morning at Chattogram Circuit House conference room. Zila Parishad Chairman ATM Pear Islam announced the budget, while Chief executive officer Shabbir Iqbal presided over the meeting.
Chairman ATM Pearul Islam said, I have been working day and night since taking charge of the ZilaParishad in November last year. Although working with very limited manpower, we have taken various steps to increase the income of ZilaParishad. Income generating projects are being taken up by reclaiming illegally occupied land. I have made a committee with representatives of ZilaParishad, UpazilaParishad and Municipality to recover illegally occupied property, the committee is working. It is because of taking all these multifaceted steps that we have been able to accept this budget despite the global war situation and economic crisis. He said, being the chairman of the district council, he is also in charge of the district Red Crescent. He was appalled by the massive looting of institutions and programs run by the District Red Crescent over the years. A lot of time and effort has to be given to make this institution free from corruption and towards public welfare. Can't even manage to do personal urgent work due to busy schedule.
He said that an initiative has been taken to set up a 'Chattogram Heritage Corner' on the 1st floor to highlight Chittagong history, heritage and culture in the 18-storey building under construction by ChattogramZilaParishad, and to work in this regard, Premier University Vice-Chancellor Dr.Anupam Sen, a committee has been made with scholars. The committee met and started working through various sub-committees.
ZilaParishad executive officer Md DidarulAlam, executive engineer Mohammad Monirul Islam and members, chairman and executive officers of various upazilas, mayor and executive officers of the municipality were present in the meeting. All those present congratulated the ZilaParishad Chairman for speeding up the activities of the ZilaParishad through multi-faceted initiatives and taking up the program of setting up the Heritage Corner. It is also requested to review the past activities of the Red Crescent and take action against those involved in corruption. After a detailed discussion, the proposed budget for the financial year 2023-24 was adopted unanimously in the meeting.
It known that ChandnaishUpazila Chairman Mohammad Abdul Jabbar Chowdhury was congratulated for being awarded the National Fisheries Medal 2023 in the meeting.
