Chattogram WASA is being increased in the second phase of water price. This price is effective from September. But the water price has not increased the quality of service. Bacterial material is still found in CWASA water.
CWASA authorities said that the price is being increased by 5 taka per unit (1000 litres) for residential and Tk 5.18 paisa for commercial.
According to Chattogram WASA sources, residential customers have increased from Tk 13 to Tk 18, which is 38 percent of the price, and commercial customers have increased from Tk 31 to Tk 82 paisa, which is a 16 percent increase in price.
The cost of water per unit was Tk 5.41 paisa for residential, Tk 15.32 paisa for commercial in 2009. Currently WASA has 78 thousand 542 residential customer connections and 7 thousand 767 commercial connections. Last year 2014, residential water price increased by Tk 6.90 paisa, commercial by Tk 19.59 paisa. In the last year 2020, the price of water for residential is Tk 12.40 paisa, commercial is charged Tk 30.30 paisa. Residential water will be charged at Tk 13 and commercial at Tk 31.82 paisa in 2022 According to WASA sources, the Chattogram WASA authority sent a proposal to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives to increase the price of water to 18 taka for residential and 50 taka for commercial.
In view of this, the local government department of the ministry issued a notification by accepting the proposal to increase the price of residential water and setting the price at 37 TK for commercial.
Managing Director of Chattogram Wasa AKM Fazlullah said that currently the production cost of water has increased. The loan will have to be repaid from next year. So the price of water has to be increased.
