Chattogram WASA conducting a mobile court drive, demolished a private facility built next to the Sheikh Russell Water Treatment Plant in Madunaghat of Chattogram city on Thursday morning.

WASA Executive Magistrate Fahmida Mustafa who led the drive said about 40 percent of the land of Sheikh Russell water treatment plant purchased from the Water Development Board had been illegally occupied for a long time.

She added, during the operation illegal installations were evicted and such eviction campaigns to protect government land will continue in the future as well.

However, occupant of the land Nessar Uddin Bulu claimed that the land was leased from Water development board in 2006 with renewal condition after five years.

“Before the expiration of the lease in 2011, they asked us to explain the occupation by making fictitious allegations. Then we filed a writ petition in the High Court and later, I filed a case with Hathazari Assistant Judge's Court”, Nessar Uddin said.

He further said that Water Development Board had filed an objection when they applied for a temporary ban against the Water Development Board.

The court ordered the status quo to be maintained until a hearing and a temporary ban to be imposed. Then the Water Development Board asked for more time to submit their report.

“A hearing on the submission and temporary ban is scheduled for March 11 next year.  Disobeying the court order, Chattogram WASA demolished our installation worth crores without any prior notice.  We will take legal action in this regard”, he added.
