Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury expressed his optimism about transforming the port city into an international-standard city within five years.
He said after taking charge of the Mayor at a simple ceremony in the port city on Monday.
In his speech, he said that he won’t not hesitate to take advice from anyone to develop the city.
Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said that many people think that Chittagong only belongs to the mayor. I want to break this old idea. There are many scholars, journalists, artists, intellectuals and experts in Chittagong. I want to use their talent. This city belongs to everyone. So I want to consult with everyone. I want to develop Chittagong in a planned way. A person’s perspective could be wrong but collective perspective cannot be wrong.
I’m just a spokesperson, a representative, he said. I want to go ahead while consulting with everyone in the way I went door to door asking for votes. I want the cooperation of everyone from businessmen to people of all walks of life. Service agencies that are negligent must be held accountable. The suffering of the people will decrease, but money will not be wasted while doing so.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken charge of the development of Chittagong in her own hands. We have won as people have confidence on the leader of our country. We will have to move forward with the history and tradition of Chittagong. Chittagong will stand as the model of an ideal city.
