‘Ctg to be a city like Shanghai’

Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said once the construction of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under the Karnaphuli River completes, Chattogram will become a city like Shanghai. He made the remarks while addressing a discussion at the International Convention Center in Kazir Dewry of the port city, joining from Dhaka through a videoconference. 

Chattogram City Awami League organized the event on the occasion of the third death anniversary of former mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury. Quader said the Karnaphuli tunnel will make communication between Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar easier. It will radically change the image of the port city.

Plans have been made to implement a metro rail project to take Chattogram to the pinnacle of development.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is implementing development projects in Chattogram as it was envisioned by the port city leaders including Mohiuddin Chowdhury, he added. 

City AL Acting President Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury presided over the function while Deputy Minister of Education Barrister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury was present as the special guest.

City Awami League general secretary AJM Nasir Uddin, Vice-President Nayem Uddin Chowdhury, advocate Sunil Sarkar, advocate Ibrahim Hossain Chowdhury Babul, CDA chairman Mohammad Zahirul Alam Dhobhas, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury Bachu, joint general secretary Rezaul Karim, leaders and workers of different levels of the metropolitan Awami League were present on the occasion.
