Published : 24 Sep 2022 08:52 PM

The leaders of the Taxpayer Protection Parishad have alleged that the Mayor of the City Corporation is planning to destabilize Chattogram by filing cases against them.

The leaders made this complaint in the rally before the mass rally organized at Kadamtali intersection of Chattogram city on Friday.  Announcing the schedule of public hearings on October 21, the gathering demanded the repeal of the Housing Act 1986, which imposed rent on premises.

Chattogram Taxpayer Protection Parishad has been agitating to fix house tax on the basis of building size instead of building rent.  Among them, a case and two GDs have been filed against three persons including President of Taxpayer Protection Parishad Nurul Abshar on September 20, 21 for making 'defamatory' statements against City Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury.  After that, the police also conducted an operation to arrest Nurul Abshar.

Chattogram Tax Protection Parishasd has demanded the withdrawal of the case filed against the president for talking about changing the CCC domestic tax law.  At the same time, a public hearing program has been announced to change the holding tax law of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) and collect house tax based on the old rules.    The speakers said that a conspiratorial case has been filed against the organization's president Nurul Abshar to thwart the logical movement of Taxpayer Protection Parishad.  I humbly request to withdraw the case.  Those who want to spoil the City Corporation's tender are now conspiring.  In the gathering, the General Secretary of the Security Parishad, Prof. Amir Uddin, said that a public hearing will be held at Kadamtali intersection on October 21.  Those who have been taxed, they will bring that paper.  Dignitaries of Chattogram will come.  I will invite former mayors and current mayors.  The hearing will be held in the presence of all.  Let everyone know what people are in trouble with.  From 1st to 19th October we will march in all wards.  I will do marches, rallies and committees.  Recently, when the City Corporation started collecting house tax at an increased rate based on rent, the Taxpayer Protection Parishad started public relations at the local level against it for several months.  Then on September 2, they gave the program of mass rally.  In continuation of this, mass marches and rallies were held on Friday.  Earlier on September 18, in the courtyard meeting organized by the Taxpayers Parishad in West Madarbari, it was alleged that the President of the Parishad Nurul Abshar insulted the CCC Mayor in the regional language of Chattogram.  Mayor's personal assistant Dulal filed a case against him.
